We design each trip specifically around your needs, wishes, and schedule. No cookie-cutter trips. You tell us what experience you’re looking for and we’ll put together a trip that is customized around what matters most to you. You dream it, we create it.
Our crew is second to none. Our guides and llamas are of professional grade. Everyone works hard to make your trip safe, comfortable, and memorable. Our llamas do the heavy lifting so we can go farther, stay longer, enjoy more, and be comfortable. Llamas are a gamechanger.
Our fully-guided nature and llama hiking trips are all about your safety, comfort, and experience. We provide the gear, meals, guides, llamas, and much more. You pay one price; no hidden fees or add-ons. We provide a detailed description of what’s included with your trip. No gimmicks guaranteed.
It’s totally fine if you don’t have much experience hiking and camping. We’ll take care of you. No need to bring your own gear; we have a sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad, and pillow etc. waiting for you. Just bring your personal belongings, we provide the rest. It’s that simple.
Join us for a personalized trip that prioritizes the quality of your experience. Our trips are always small in size, 4-8 people, plus 2 guides. We don’t mix and match groups. Our services are specifically tailored to your group. Invite your family and friends to join you.
Llamas make for great trail and camp companions in the backcountry. They are hard-working, yet easy to manage. You can lead your own llama. Llamas are safe to handle by anyone, gentle on the trail and vegetation, and relaxing around camp. Plus they spot wildlife better than anyone.
We have decades of experience helping people connect with the outdoors in the Rocky Mountain West. Let's talk about what you'd like to do, see, and experience. Based on this initial conversation, we'll propose the type of trip that will work best for you. Each trip has a particular theme e.g., wildlife watching, fishing, camping, relaxing. Next, we map your trip using sophisticated mapping software to explore options as far as hiking distance, elevation, terrain, and campsites. We share these maps for us to decide on what we're doing (see a sample map below). Additionally, we rate each trail for its degree of difficulty and solitude. Early on, we talk about what to bring, see gear list below.
Every backcountry trip in Yellowstone Park requires a reservation (not the case on the Helena National Forest). We submit a trip request for approval. Sometimes we have to adjust the route as campsites may not be available. Once we have the Park-issued trip ticket in hand we’re good to proceed. At that point, you’ll receive a packet with detailed information about our trip, what to bring, where to meet etc. Below is a sample trip packet. At that point, we’ll ask for a deposit to confirm the trip. We’ll also ask you to complete our online trip registration form which you can access here.
With the paperwork behind us, we can now focus on the trip itself. We’ll review the itinerary with you one last time, talk about dietary preferences and food allergies, review medical information, and talk about what it is like to hike and camp in the backcountry away from roads and people as far as safety and comfort. We often make adjustments to accommodate personal preferences and wishes. This is all about setting and managing expectations for you and us (and the llamas). We’ll visit with you as much as you’d like for everyone to be comfortable and excited. Finally, we’ll meet and greet at the trailhead on the first day of what will be a great and memorable adventure. This is how we bring adventure to life!
Our llamas are strong, sure-footed, and experienced. We only use the proven line of South American working llamas called CCaras. You will not find a more hard-working and reliable llama breed anywhere. Our rigorous process of selecting and training llamas ensures you'll have a trusted partner by your side.
Our llama gear has been designed, field-tested, and refined through rigorous trials. We don't settle for second-best especially not when it comes to saddles, panniers, and rigging. Where we go, we can't afford for our gear to fail and put you and our animals at risk.
Not every llama makes for a good packer. Using our rigorous selection process coupled with time, training, and care have produced an exceptional line of llamas that perform, go the extra mile, and don't give up. We invite you to experience the difference for yourself.
Complete and email the rental request form below. Next, we'll contact you to go over your plans and answer any questions. Then we determine how many llamas you'll need and work out the rental details. We are committed to setting you up for success and have years of experience helping people have an enjoyable and safe experience. You can count on us.
We'll send you a rental agreement for review and signature (see sample below). A signed agreement and a 25% deposit confirm the reservation. The final payment is due 30 days prior to the llama pick-up at our location in Helena, Montana. We are not authorized to deliver llamas to a public land trail head.
If you rent llamas for the first time, we require the completion of a 4-hour llama packing clinic. We'll tell you everything about how to pack with and care for llamas. You can take the clinic any time prior to picking up llama. You only have to take the clinic once. The person who signs the rental agreement must complete the clinic. We ask for two in your party to be trained.
